In my hour of spare time today, I grabbed my camera and headed over to the 9th Ward District of New Orleans - the area most effected by Hurricane Katrina. Completely depressing — I was amazed at what I was seeing. Katrina had hit in August of 2005 and it is now February of 2008. 3 years later and the area is still non-livable. Most everything I saw was vacant, with the exception of a few trailers that sat on the front lawns of select houses that were rendered non-livable.

Only the front frame of this house is still standing.

A positive message in a negative environment — although the home is still vacant and 2007 has passed.

Some houses still have all the inside furniture in place, even without the doors/walls present. This is a common view seen from the road.

Boarded up houses and marked doors are a constant site along ‘all’ streets within the 9th Ward.
